DEXTORIA DEVENGEL

Chapter 2 (ZelCarter and Dezorax's story)

(A/N: Another piano piece that I listened to while writing the story. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTkzyyv0DuA)

White delphinium mirrors

For every tear stained, what was the depth? What are the reflected faces? What is the mirrored hatred? I could care, but that won't stop you now. Hold me, care for the truth that saves me, just a bit more. The lies that we shed and share are deadly ones, but we can't get enough. Look at me, tend to the truth that beguiles me, just a little more. The mirrors, our reflection, the crazy dejection that holds us. We - are - clinging - heights.

SILENCE

"Don't you?"

SILENCE

".... I bet you do."

"......... I might."

(March 4, 1951)

"Zelly! Zelly!" The happy souled boy chirped. He wore a thin winter coat that stopped at his knees, a scraf, short boots and a small white cross earing. His height was 3'7 and he wore everything cream colored. The small five year old boy was the same age as ZelCarter but his hair was blonde yet spiked a bit at the top to give off the illusion it defied gravity, and he had blue eyes that were bright yet full of joy. Everything the opposite of ZelCarter.

ZelCarter sighed and closed the book he was reading to pay attention to his friend. "Yes?"

"I f-fed Helios and he didn't bite m-me this time!" He beamed happily knowing that he finally succeeded in feeding ZelCarter's demonic husky.

He didn't spare a smile nor any emotion to his friend's small success, but that didn't mean he wasn't proud. ZelCarter never did like to show his emotion towards people, but it never stopped him from showing his respect when needed of course.

".... Well done." He dully commented and went back to reading.

At that moment ZelCarter's friend was going to reply until the door abruptly opened.

"Sire... ummm..." Malachai walked in and lifted up his finger pointing at the small child beside ZelCarter. "His caretaker request his presence." Malachai made sure he emphasized the word 'His' strongly.

ZelCarter not liking the tone at all, tilted his head up a bit commanding respect for his dear friend. He was in charge of Malachai, and he was going to get what he wanted out of him.

In return Malachai bit his lip in nervousness of the future punishment he was most likely to receive.

"His name is Dezorax, Malachai. And that is the name he shall be called upon by you. Do you understand?"

The caretaker quickly nodded and shakily motioned towards the door.

Dezorax jumped up and ran towards Malachai smiling bright. "Thank y-you mister!" He beamed brightly and ran out the door to see his caretaker.

"Disgrace." Malachai mumbled quietly, careful not to alarm his Sire.

ZelCarter stood up and walked towards the window of the study room. He looked outside of the window seeing Dezorax run towards his caretaker's arms to rejoice. Malachai already knowing what was taking place shuttered in disgust.

Love, joy, and innocence. This was what Dezorax held, but that wasn't the problem to Malachai. The thing that infuriated him deeply was the fact that Dezorax was a devil like ZelCarter but he favored Christianity. He loved pure colors such as white and cream, his caretaker was an angel instead of a demon, and due to the fact that his angel was his caretaker he learned a lot about God and adored Him. He worshiped Him. He prayed to Him. He was Christian. He is White Devil and ZelCarter is Black Devil.

Yin and Yang.

"..... Sire would you like anything else?" He asked putting the book from earlier back onto the shelf. The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank.

"..... Open the front gates. I am going out." He commanded putting his hands behind his back.

Malachai nodded quickly and went to complete the wish. ZelCarter on the other hand kept watching the window until the task was done. Today was going to be another fine day of going out, and like always he was going to make sure nothing ruined it.

ZelCarter had no interest in God nor Christianity, but he did what was right for his friend who was a believer. The day he found out his friend wanted to be Christian he didn't force him to change his mind, he decided to leave his friend's wishes be, and even to take part in the small aspects of it if he was asked to. On the third day he was wore a black small cross that Dezorax had gave him that resembled his own white one, and on the seventh day he read the Bible. He might not find it to his liking, but he wanted to still be... connected to Dezorax. Even in that way.

"Innocence." He whispered to himself seeing Dezorax's joyful face. A child's smile. He then walked out of the study room and headed outside.

Once he was outside with Dezorax and his angel caretaker he invited them to come with him. When they decided their answers they left to the town.

"Look! Look! Look at a-all the pwetty fl-flowers Zelly!" Dezorax's soft high pitched voice chirped.

"......" ZelCarter looked towards the flower shop and nodded once. "I see. Would you like to go in?"

"Yes! Yes! Oh pw-pwease Teresa?"

Teresa smilled warmly and nodded. She had green eyes, shoulder-length brown hair that was curled, and wore a nun's interior. She indeed was a nun, but also a caretaker of a small devil in return. "Yes, you may go."

Dezorax not wanting to hear nothing else in return dragged ZelCarter into the flower shop and immediately began picking out flowers.

ZelCarter really did not have any interest in such things but of course that wouldn't stop him from doing of what his friend would like to do. They were complete polar opposite, but yet they understood each other. Once during a meeting he called himself and Dezorax brothers, though it was not true Dezorax did not decline. He himself once called themselves cousins when the flower shop owner asked them what was their relationship. ZelCarter did not decline either. He was quite pleased.

"Will you buy anything?" He asked while re-adjusting his scholar badge.

Dezorax tapped his small chin and saw a pair of delphinium flowers. He knew they were poison but the flower shop owner kept them there just for him. The flower shop owner knew that he and ZelCarter were devils due to an accident a while back when they were four. She might have been in her early 70's but she wasn't senile nor forgetful. She had a real eye for flowers though, she once told Teresa that Dezorax and ZelCarter resembled a white and black rose, but together they reminded her of a black and white delphinium flower. Flowers that held a beautiful appearance but could posion people if not handled right.

"I want them! Them!" He bounced pointing to the white delphinium flowers. It was very rare they coloured white instead of their usual blue or indigo colour in the spring.

"Then we will buy them." ZelCarter announced.

Dezorax ran to the flower shop keeper and dragged her to the flowers he wanted.

It was just then ZelCarter witnessed a white flower petal fall from it's owner. A white delphinium. Something was wrong.

It was now late and the moon has shown it's face, ZelCarter and Dezorax had finally arrived back to ZelCarter's home after hours of exploring the town and shopping for sweets. Dezorax had a sweet tooth.

As soon as ZelCarter walked into his room all of the candles immediantly lit. It was one of his gifts.

Dezorax was second to come into the room. He put down his candy bags and laid his bouquet of delphinium flowers on the bed and took off his scarf. He always wore his jacket and scarf but never on hot days. He had other clothes just as ZelCarter but just like him they favored what they wore the most.

ZelCarter closed the window curtains and looked over to Dezorax seeing him take off his boots. "We should go to sleep soon. It is late."

"I know b-but we h-have candy Zelly!" He waved his small arms.

ZelCarter sighed and nodded a 'alright, fine.'

Dezorax smiled in return and ran to the bathroom but didn't close the door. "Come here Zelly! Come h-here!"

ZelCarter blinked, letting his confused emotion only show to himself. "... But you... are in the bathoom." He akwardly said. It was a bit odd. A person wanting their friend's presence in the bathroom.

"Just c-come here!" He called happily.

He finally gave in and walked towards the bathroom but narrowed his eyes a bit when seeing the blonde headed child on the counter looking at the mirror.

"What are y-"

"What do you see Zelly?" Dezorax asked staring at the mirror in fascination.

ZelCarter walked towards him and stopped behind him. For two reasons. 1) to make sure he didn't fall, and 2) to look at the mirror too.

"....I don't know. You tell me. What do you see?" He tested.

ZelCarter's mind was just like Dezorax's. Evolved. Knowing the true light and darkness which the world held. The darkness and light most people avoided. ZelCarter's vocabulary was very efficient, his knowledge on every school subject was flawless, and his knowledge on life was differently accurate. Dezorax was held by innocense though, he was always positive by not looking at the world darkly or what darkness it truly held. ZelCarter once told Malachai that Dezorax is indeed going against the rule of a devil by loving Christianity, his vocabulary might be on the same rank of a seven year old's, he might be innocent, but his knowledge of life was just as evolved at his. He compared Dezorax's innocent knowledge to the innocent knowledge of Adam and Eve when everything first began. They were just as innocent, their knowledge of seeing the world in a different manner before they had eaten the fruit. Which then ZelCarter compared his knowledge to the knowledge of Adam and Eve after they had eaten the fruit. Two ways of knowledge of how life and the world could be looked at.

"I see truth." Dezorax then touched the mirror with his small chubby hand.

ZelCarter glanced at him but kept his eyes trained on the mirror. "... Tell me more."

He paused but kept staring at the mirror. "When we a-are angry or m-mean to others we n-never look in the m-mirror. Mirrors h-hold truth. They can show us wh-who we really are. They can show us if we-we're mad, sad or s-sulking when we even don't r-realize it." He slid his hand down the mirror. "Mirrors can e-even show us how hollow or h-happy our souls are. They can see some things we can't or yet w-want to see."

ZelCarter looked down a bit, taking in the information his friend just gave. "Come... We rest." He said softly and helped him down from the counter to the bed.

Dezorax removed his coat revealing a white shirt that had a 'v' neck. He observed that ZelCarter was removing his school jacket, so in return he quietly got off the bed and took out a couple of fruit roll-ups and stuffed them under the pillow. He made sure he carefully got back in the bed while ZelCarter was putting away his shoes.

ZelCarter turned around saw Dezorax sitting up in the bed with a grin on his face. "... Why are you grinning?"

"Nothing! No w-weason!" He laughed nervously and patted the side next to him.

".... In a bit." He walked towards the bathroom and slowly closed the door for privacy.

Dezorax stared at the door for a moment to make sure it was clear. Knowing it was clear he lifted up his pillow and started to munch on his candy quickly so he could avoid his friend's long scoldings.

ZelCarter later came out of the bathroom, but what caught his attention was the light traces of candy aroma in the air. He sighed deeply knowing what his friend was doing but decided to avoid scolding him tonight.

As they adjusted themselves and covered up each other in the bed, ZelCarter could hear Dezorax mumble something sleepily before falling asleep. He took a moment to register the words and to slowly learn from it. Also ignoring the candy aroma that came off of his friend and the soft crackling noise of the wrappers that somehow made it's way between them. As of then he finally decided to fall asleep, to awake again another day.

'Who we are and what we are, are different than what we want to become. But with a little work, help, and dedication, then who we want to be is who we shall become.' Were the words that Dezorax spoke, which clung to ZelCarter's mind and heart.

Bonus: Q/A

Q: Who was talking in the begining of Chapter 1 before the story began?

A: The voices in the begining was Dezorax, ZelCarter, and the main man from the organization with the blue fire around his cloaked head in the prologue.

Ex:
"who are we?" (Dezorax)

SILENCE

"will anyone come for us?" (Dezorax)

SILENCE

"...we don't have parents do we?" (Dezorax)

.........

"...we're alone." (Dezorax)

"...YES" (Organization guy)

"...Yes...we are..alone" (ZelCarter)

Q: Is this whole story based only on the past?

A: Well no, so far the first Chapter, and this Chapter is based on the past. Before the Chapter begining was more voices of Dezorax and ZelCarter but it was said in the present. The next Chapter will also be of the past, though the next one after that will hold half of the present and of the past. Then after that Chapter its mostly all present, but its important to read the Chapters of their past because it holds key words and important information that will be needed in the future for events held in the present.

Ex: In the prologue we see this organization that is one of the main antagonist in the story, though we also will see them in ZelCarter and Dezorax's past.

Q: If this story does eventually be held in the present will you start it off the same like the old version? and how dark is the plot?

A: For anyone who first read the story I put on here(Dextoria, not a Dextoria Devengel) then I can be happy to say that no it will not start off the same. This version is much darker than the other, something I'm used to working with =D and the plot is dark (do remember the prologue) but I want it to slowly piece together first. Adding all the key details first. But I'm positve to say that it's going to start rolling in pretty soon once everything is intact.

If you have any more questions just email me! Like this one I will be happy to answer them on the next chapter :D
