Defeat and destruction, wreckage, hunger and fear
What has happened to our country?
The piper is being paid and nothing of our happy past is left for us here.
Children lovingly raised to be the Carriers of The Great New Dawn
But this exuberance, this hope, this beautiful dream is all gone.
Brutalized, despised, occupied and abused
It's your country's fate if you're at war and you lose.
How does one be a boy in an occupied land of defeat?
Whether you live in the North or the South
What path of hope will there ever be for your feet?
In the South, the soldier father has come home from the East, broken and with the Thousand Yard Stare...
He sits for hours gazing entranced into the fire; what does he see? What visions of horror come there?
In th North a soldier father has arrived home from the East too, with the same Thousand Yard Stare;
He drinks and screams and rages, and there is no peace for the young boy there.
But these boys are strong, strong as Krupp steel, their bright spirits determined to live.
They have been strengthened by the fire of destruction, come out whole and now have much to give.
The boy in the North cuddles with his dog, his parents' screaming gets louder each day,
So with loyal Hund Hexe he takes off to get lost in play.
A loving companion, a dog he adores; loyal and devoted, untouched by human wars.
When humans turn their backs on you these animals are your best friend; when people falter and abandon you these animals are faithful to the end.
Dark-haired Roy dreams that one day he will leave this painful strife;
He watches the ships in the far-away harbor and wishes they could take him to a better life.
He longs for peace and love and harmony divine, and he thinks on the day when he can make his escape, and he bides his time....
Far in the South, the young blonde boy tried so hard to connect with his Dad.
"Look at me Vati!: His heart cries."See me! Talk to me! I am here father!"
Others might say "The War has destroyed him, why even bother?"
But the boy refuses to give up; Siegfried knows there is a way to reach this man whose war-scarred life most would write off as tragic.
And then Siegfried found the key to his father's heart: magic!
He showed the silent man a magic trick he taught himself to get down pat,
His amazed father looked him in the eyes and exclaimed "How did you do that?!"
The ice was broken and a miracle occurred
And at the same time this boy knew that he had found his vocation in the world.
Years later another miracle would occur on a German ocean liner trip:
Both young men, grown now, worked there and met on the ocean liner ship.
Blonde Siegfried was a magician; dark-haired Roy was a cabin steward for his job part,
And while they both were very different they soon discovered they were of one heart.
A unique idea was born, and the combination of animals with magic created a show of great joys,
People flocked more and more to see the magnificent performances of Siegfried and Roy's.
Their friendship is eternal, as Love is stronger than Death
When Roy was horribly injured, Siegfried stood by him in strength.
Perhaps the lesson is that out of great pain, rubble and loss, the most beautiful things can be born,
Each dark night is followed by the morn.
Don't ever give up, don't abandon your dreams
God does not give you the desires without giving you the means.
Wir danken euch ganz herzlich für Alles, Siegfried and Roy. Wir lieben euch!
