"Dejection"

“Dejection”

A lonely corner, grim sentiment dwells,

Inviting me, the melancholy way;

For behold my heart, love no more compels,

And despair threatens, mist graying the day;

That sprawling fen, my mind's tainted visage,

Adrift with thoughts, being neither glad nor bright;

Outside the window, a joyful image,

Yet my eyes ignore the uplifting light;

A-midst the crowd, all those unburdened souls,

I wander, gripped with my relentless gloom;

My humor, similar to long-dead coals,

I can't foresee my escape from this doom;

Forever trapped by cold dejection,

I must hope for my heart's resurrection.
