Posthumously He Said
A poem about a letter never sent and what was said. |
-Posthumously He Said- by Keaton Foster Is he dead Did his life end Was it taken Did he give it up A bullet to the brain A rope around his neck A sickness forcefully lent To him I could always relate Bound by blood We were one and the same Existing through thick and thin He never had a chance He still acted as if he did For a time he was so sure That he would make it Confident within his lies The truth was placed aside Posthumously he said In a letter not addressed Forgive me for all that I did Forget my mistakes Lend me some grace A certain level of escape Freedom from my ways The pain was too great Another day I could not face I knew you would find me I knew you would be the first These words are for you And certainly no one else I don't want them to know The true sadness of my soul I want them to think That my death was a mistake An action taken in haste A wasteful display of shame If they knew, they would say That I was in the midst of a bad stage A hurdle that could not be faced Unless of course with their help Such heretics in suits of flesh They had their chance to care A lifetime of dares Did I send their way Hear me, listen, save me There was no reply Only in you could I confide Only in you the truth will hide Say a prayer for me Then one for yourself Ask God to grant me a home A kingdom beyond skin and bones A place of peace in a wilderness Of never ending relief Death is nothing I have ever feared Life on the other hand Has always frightened the hell out of me These words, the news, the truth Are all for you to keep Reflection dare seen Posthumously he said Subsequently it was read… Posthumously He Said Written by Keaton Foster Copyright © 2012.
