"...untouched places to explore, new chances to adore."
Today
04/22/12

Today,
nine years, seven months, and twenty days
since the day you asked me, casually,
in your high-school way with your sideways smile
to be yours,
I learned something about you.
We sat together at dinner,
you discussed hunting in a firm voice,
divulging to me your opinions
about a negligible subject.
More exciting than the thing learned
was the learning,
the realization that after nine years, seven months, and twenty days,
there are still new moments to discover,
fresh beliefs to share.
Today,
nine years, seven months, and twenty days
since the day I agreed, casually,
in my high-school way with my pining heart
to be yours,
I felt precious to you.
We lay together in bed,
you brushed the soft hairs near my temple
and said you loved the small space
between my hairline and my eyebrows.
More endearing than the thing said
was the saying,
the realization that after nine years, seven months, and twenty days,
there are still untouched places to explore,
new chances to adore.
