A poem about facing life as it is not as I wish it could have been.

It has been so long
Sounding the same song
Screaming to be heard
Where have you gone
How could you dare
Your love for me unclear
Your hate for yourself
So brutally aware
Reality no longer
Holds any precedence
Escapism is the only salvation
Sickened by your disease
I too have been told
That death will be
Much sooner than expected
That I'd better make peace
That I'd better hold those I love
With empty arms
I stand here alone
Looking for you
Has done nothing
With regards to ease
I will never find you
Because you above all
Don't want to be found
How could you ever
Face all that you have done
And all that I have become
Son, mother, child
Dead, inside and out
No such livable life
Undistinguishable darkness and light
A hell of a plight forced upon us
Both you and I have suffered much
You found a way to numb your pain
I fear that I have had no such luck
Full force it finds me with each breath
I do what I can and what I must
These hands are stained
This mind, quickly displaced
I am capable of more than most
You taught me to do what it takes
Survival at any price
Even if I have been condemned
By the incurable nature of what it means
To have ever been your child
Full force is how I must live
How I must survive
At least for a time…
