Take Me Back
Rated: E | Poetry | Adult | #1868430
A weird poem written from an answer to a question asked by a fan about my waivering faith.

Beat
Break
Living awake
Sleeping death
Separate stages
God only knows
He's not telling
Why would he ever
At times, I dare say
Your ideals I refuse
Other times
I fall down to my knees and pray
Hypocrisy screams through
But God turns a deaf ear
He only hears my plea
The sincerity of what I'm asking
Everything else is irrelevant
Human beings sure could learn
A few things from him about forgiving
Fallible beast every damn one of us
Digression avoids the obvious
Take me further back
To those monumental days
Back to the darkness
To the true weight of who I am
Back to an age where my hands
Were bound, woven tight
Back to an age when I had
Little to no choices at all
Those were my defining days
Hate filled rage directed at me
For no reason spoken
Only expressed
Punishing fists, gripping hands
Relentless desires met
Forced to capitulate
No kindness was given
Life seemed quite unfair
An unjust amalgamation of ideas
Brought to bear by madmen
Looking to satisfy their sickness
Many complicit hands are stained
Mother to child
Father to son
Such relationships meant nothing
In those days it was about
Predator and prey
Never again is that the case
At times, I pretend to forget
A safety switch easily implemented
A defense mechanism that allows me to cope
It’s the only way that I know
It's what I must do to remain above the grade
Take me back is what I say
When I get too far away
From that which I am made
Punishing experiences misplaced
Are easily restored
A continual lesson of sorts
That is when I return to faith
Back from the wilderness of ideals spent
That is when I am ready to accept God as is
But within the confines of all that is said
I assure him that I will wonder away again
That I will make my own place
Within the confines of this shape
Like any good father should
He assures me that such a thing is ok
We agree through silent means
That my system of belief
Is as best as it can be
Take me back is what I say
When I forget the power of faith
And the good grace of a God
That understands my ways
And what I must do to get through…
