The Mean Witch
This fun story teaches children not to judge others. Look at who they are on the inside. |
The Mean Witch One dark, cold, Halloween night Rachel and her twin sister, Karen were getting ready to go trick-or-treating. They were both so excited. Halloween was one of their favorite holidays. Not only did Halloween allow them to get tons of candy but it also allowed them to dress up in fun costumes. Rachel was a duck and Karen was a pumpkin. "I can't wait" yelled Karen. Excitement was rushing throughout her body and she could hardly contain herself. "Me too. I want to go to every house" Rachel yelled as she jumped up and down. "Okay, okay, lets go then!" Karen and Rachel both grabbed their halloween baskets from their beds and began to run out of their rooms and down the stairs of their house. "Wait a minute girls" Sarah shouted. Sarah was Karen and Rachel's mother and she wanted to take some pictures before her two wild and crazy children ran out of the house. "Mommy please can we just go?" Rachel cried. Karen chimed in "yeah mom, please. We have so many houses to visit and not a lot of time to visit them." "Now you two just wait one minute. I just want to take one picture of you two. You both look so adorable!" Sarah instructed as she grabbed her camera from the table by the couch. "Now stand next to each other and smile." The two girls did as told. Two big grins on their face, a flash of the camera, and they were out of the house before you could say a word. Both Rachel and Karen heard their mother remind them to be careful and to be back before nine. "Mother worries too much." Rachel stated. "I know..." replied Karen and they both made their way to their first destination. Karen ran up on the porch leaving Rachel at the bottom of the stairs. "Geez Louise sister can you wait for me?" Rachel shouted as she attempted to catch her breath. "Sorry sister. I am just so excited!" Karen stated as she stopped at the door of the house and waited for her sister to reach her before ringing the door bell. When the door opened they both shouted "Trick-Or-Treat!" They both were met with a friendly smile and some candy. They twins thanked the young women and ran off to the next house. As Karen was about to climb the steps to the next house Rachel shouted "stop!" "What now?" Karen questioned. Her sister was always the slow poke. "There is no light on at this house. Remember what mom said about houses with no light on?" Rachel stated in her grown up voice. "Oh yeah... I forgot. Okay lets go to the next one then!" Karen ordered as she ran to the next house. This house was humongous, which really excited her because that meant they were rich! She couldn't wait to see how much candy she got from this person! Karen was just about the ring the door bell when she turned around to see if her sister was nearby. Rachel was not there. Karen saw that Rachel was standing in the driveway. "Rachel what are you doing? Come on." Karen yelled but Rachel did not move. "What's the matter?" Karen asked as she made her way down to the driveway. "I don't want to go to this house." Rachel whispered. Her eyes were big and round and her face was as white as snow. Her expression reminded her of those people in the scary movies when they had seen a ghost. "Why not?" "This is where the mean witch lives!" Rachel cried. "Don't be silly," Karen stated, "she is not going to hurt us." Karen grabbed her sister by the hand and pulled her to the door. Karen was not going to miss out on getting candy from this huge house. No way. Karen rang the door bell and turned to her sister. Her sister swallowed hard and Karen could feel the moisture from her sisters hands. She really was scared, she thought, as she heard the big black door creak and it opened. Rachel took a deep breath and clutched onto her sisters hand when she noticed that the women who opened the door was an elderly women who wore a long black dress and a black hat. "Welcome to my haunted house," the elderly women mumbled. Rachel started to run away but Karen stopped her. "It's only a Halloween haunted house. Let's go inside." Karen stated excitedly. "Follow me," laughed the elderly women, who resembled a witch. Both Karen and Rachel followed her. They both walked down a long hallway with lots of cobwebs hanging from the wall. There was also pictures of really scary looking people on the walls. When the two girls turned the corner, they were in the kitchen. There was a large pot on the stove filled with something that was boiling. There was also something cooking in the oven that smelled really bad. "Have a seat and I will get us a snack" laughed the witch. "We can go into the next room to eat." Rachel looked at her sister in horror and Karen decided that it was time to go home. This was just getting really creepy! "We need to go home." "Oh no," she replied "our snack is ready now. Follow me." She opened the door to the next room. Karen grabbed Rachel's hand and stepped into the room. At that moment some really loud music started to sound from the speakers that hung on the wall. Both Karen and Rachel screamed and embraced each-other as the lights flickered on. Both girls noticed that all of their friends were standing inside the room. They must have all come to this house before they had come. They two were tricked! "Why do you like scaring kids." Rachel questioned when she had finally stop shaking from being so scared. "Yeah, didn't your mother ever teach you how to be nice?" Karen questioned. "I don't like being mean..." the old women quietly mumbled "but everyone always calls me a mean old witch so i decided to play the part this Halloween." Rachel and Karen looked at each other and then looked back at the old lady. "I'm sorry that I judged you without getting to know you first." Rachel apologized. Karen chimed in " yeah, me too. It wasn't nice of us. I am sorry if we hurt your feelings by calling you a witch. From now on we will call you Miss....." The elderly women laughed. "You can call me Mrs. Kindheart. "Mrs. Kindheart it is" Rachel proclaimed with her hands up in the air. "Mrs. Kindheart it is" Karen echoed with a smile. The End *The idea for this story came from a story I wrote back in 1996 with the help from my mother. I have edited and added to this story. Have fun reading and please comment! Thanks. |
