Sweet Sadie by the Sea
Rated: E | Poetry | Contest Entry | #1871479
There is a magical place where wolves meet water and Orcas sing beside them

Sweet Sadie by the Sea

Tufts of gray, shadowed white, upon the gilded sand
Ears bent low she senses me, but issues no remand
Hypnotic water waving, she whispers her appeal
My Sadie of the forest, now washed in dawn's reveal

Sea wolf of the water, she meets me by the sea
Lush the Great Bear Rainforest, Pacific legacy
Once a pup, I held you, in habitat so strained
Prayers sent for tolerance, the loggers still remained

Entreat the Gods of nature, and all that we believe
Greenpeace and Sierra Club, the promise of reprieve
Vast subject of the dreamers, painted on the wind
Regal bearing of the past, the tales she holds within

Romulus and Remus, twin babes at river's shore
Progeny of Hercules, and fed by Plutarch's lore
Gray wolf suckled dynasty, antiquity's first yawn
God of light Apollo she-wolf nurses in the dawn

Saint Francis of Assisi, broken feral walls
Mystic bloodlines, golden eyes, intractable the calls
Forgiveness in the taming, respect and peace attained
Village bowed in penitence, where only good remained

Legend of the Orcas, from white wolf they were born
Sea and forest bonded now, great majesty adorned
In pods and packs they travel, a single mate astride
Joyful leaps and playful rolls, their young secured beside

Summer dreams so quickly passed, but now it was your time
A final lick and gentle brush, as you were never mine
Clouded skies, sun kissed streams, so beautiful and free
Gifts you gave in solitude, Sweet Sadie by the sea
