Too Late
Rated: 13+ | Poetry | Other | #1872640
Too little, too late.
Once when I did walk this earth
With quiet breath
With unsure step
I stood unseen
Acknowledged not
Among the masses
I mattered not
My words upon deaf ears did fall
With no concern
With no regard
My actions did not merit mark
Not mere mention
Or kind remark
And so when chance did come my way
I took the blade
And cut away—

Now that I am far and gone
I watch them  gather
I watch them come
At my grave
Upon fresh earth
They mourn me softly
With cherished word
Many gather,
Stand side by side
Send me a prayer
Through the skies—

Foes in life
Friends in death
It is too late
To repay your debt
