Why Doesn't He Care?

What’s going on, he seems so distant?
He’s so distracted, so inconsistent.
I catch him whispering into his phone,
I hear him murmer, say that he’s not alone.

It’s been three weeks now, that he’s been so strange,
It’s been so perfect, what’s caused the change?
There’s an excitement about him that’s new to me,
He avoids my eyes, or smiles with guilty glee.

Secret calls that he takes, and those that he makes,
I’m filled with fear, my poor heart aches.
There must be someone else, perhaps an affair?
That new girl in his office - with the red hair!

I have to confront him, to find out what’s wrong,
I have to do this now, I have to be strong.
I open the door; need to end all these lies,
Twenty people are grinning, shouting “SURPRISE !”
