Poem about how time moves through a heart.
Ten years later he comes to me
He says, “I’ve made a mistake.”
He claims he left me years ago
To save me from heartache

He wasn’t ready at the time
To be the person I deserved
So he committed to another
As he kept my love reserved

This great sacrifice he made
Was all on account of me
As a kid I might have bought it
But with time comes clarity

Now I see things as they are
Through eyes made wise by age
There is nothing left between us
Not even lustful rage

All that was has faded now
In the gentle hands of time
What regrets may linger on
Live in his heart; not in mine
