Don’t go
Dare not
Leave me alone
Stay you must
Without you
I cannot be
I won’t survive
How could I ever
I love you too much
More than I should
Reciprocate
Fail me less
Have no regret
Never look back
Is often said
But in this case
I ask of you
Turn and face me down
Your once widening eyes
Have all but turned dark
Alive with death
An empty vessel
Of your former self
The once hopeful intent
Of all that you expressed
Has been laid to waste
I tried as best as I could
I wanted the perfect story
Just as you did
But reality came close
Crushing you and I
Us
From the inside out
Smashing all that we are
Into fragments that stand
No chance of ever being
Put back together as one
We are something else
Far more complex
Unique creatures in a world
Of successful examples
Of all that we are not
Or could have ever hoped to be
God has forsaken us
Just as we have forsaken him
His nonexistent role in our lives
Has just become quite personal
A need has been created
Yet like stubborn mules
We will continue to refuse
Life has taught us too much
We are sure that we know better
But certainly we do not
I will continue to beg
You will certainly deny
I will never give up
How could I ever
You will never give in
Your heart, what’s left
Is incapable of what is required
