The Time is Now

Staying in the present.
"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future,
concentrate the mind on the present moment." ~ Buddha

Live in the moment, not in the ago;
travel to yesterday saddens the show.
Stay in today, for the past is a snare;
leaving the now is the birth of beware.

Leave the tomorrow for time to unwind;
borrowing time will cost you peace of mind.
Be practical, hold a provident key,
but do not live in what is yet to be.

That’s not to say you should not reminisce;
but there are simply no lips you can kiss.
Sometimes the drive goes a little too far,
and you can slip if you stray from your car.

I find myself drifting off to the past,
where I sometimes meet a virulent cast.
I realize that I do it to me--
it isn’t worth all that P.T.S.D.*

Live in the moment, don’t live in what was,
and if you listen, you may hear a buzz.
Stay in today and you’ll minimize tears;
leave yesterday for those old Langoliers.**

*PTSD is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
**Langoliers (Steven King), are nasty, manic fur-balls
    made mostly of teeth, that eat up the past.
