Query Letter for Edenhart's Rivalry
This is my first attempt at writing a query letter. Needs critique. |
| 6/27/2012 Julianne Gentry 310 N. Saint Joseph St. Morrilton, AR 72110 5012159302 Dear Agent, I am currently on a quest to find a representation for my fantasy novel The Kingdom of the Faeries: Edenhart’s Rivalry. The first volume in a completed trilogy, Edenhart’s Rivalry is approximately 37,620 words which includes illustrations that I have drawn. And as you represent fantasy I thought you would be fascinated in my submission. I have been published before by a small company called KidPub. What inspired me to write this vast magical realm was a particular book by Brian Jacques called “The Long Patrol”. One of the many books in his Redwall series that fed my imagination. The only reason I read this book was to gain AR points for school, having no idea that it would spark an interest in me to write a book of my own. Coincidence perhaps? I call it fate. I’ve been writing since I was in the fourth grade. My teachers found out real quick that I had a wild imagination when it came to writing. My history teacher kept my intriguing story about a soldier in the first World War. Our assignment was to describe in great detail what the war was like. My story surpassed her expectations. But as it so happens there followed two sequels to Edenhart’s Rivalry, and I am currently working on its prequel along with detailed artwork. My artwork is just as important for showing as the words are for telling. I’ve honed my drawing skills over the years so that others can see what I’m seeing opposed to describing it in words. But writing and drawing are what attribute to my character. I’m writing every spare chance I get. If anyone asks my motives my reply is, “I write because it’s my passion. Not because it could be an asset over liability.” The following is a brief description: When the faerie Aurora is crowned High Queen of Edenhart she is not only faced with earning her people’s loyalty, but her rule is challenged by an ancient prophecy foretelling of a great war. With the help of her mentor Mitas the Scroll Keeper and her childhood friend Percy she leads her people into war that results in one bloody massacre, leaving her the only sole survivor. Crippled by the battle she is rescued by a band of unlikely allies. Allying herself with the beasts of Rimscour and an exiled prince she brings hope to a broken army to overcome the Warwick’s barbaric king to restore peace to her kingdom. I would be happy to send you all or a portion of the manuscript if you are interested. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, Julianne Gentry |
