The Plight of Ghost Deer
Rated: ASR | Poetry | Nature | #1880662
...a group of hunters meet their match.
The Plight of Ghost Deer

Deer hunters ate well by firelight,
embers covered with sand one night.
Each man slept under starry skies,
awakened to their prey's silent cries.

A ghastly stench was in the air
of putrid deer hides' burning hair.
They lay on top dying embers;
this, no man cared to remember.

A sudden stampede heard nearby
shook the ground in answer to why.
No deer were seen as men in fright
packed and doused a fated firelight.
