Ship to No Ship
by NRB
Rated: ASR | Poetry | War | #1880782
ode to naval-air battles, 16 lines (with actual words)
Over the glistening ocean
Shadows crossed the sky
Weaving among the clouds
As if they were meant to fly
                  ~
Cruising the peaceful swells
At speeds known as knots
Manned by men in suits
Who sit about drawing lots
                  ~
Danger pierced the bliss
As bombs dropped all around
Only to leave the scene
With nary a tell-tale sound
                  ~
Down the carrier goes
In a halo of fiery doom
No cries of laughter heard
As flames of hunger bloom
