A short poem about how darkness though fearful can be an equalizer as well.
When the world is in shadow,
when nothing is known,
bad things,
they may be there.
‘Tis true.
But the truth of the darkness
is that all is the same.
Could not the unknown
then be me?

The darkness holds dangers
to one and to all.
I admit
I don’t tread there carefree.
But the key to my courage
in that treacherous place
is to remember
that the choice,
lies with me.

So when I find that I’ve wandered
away from the light
and my fears of the night
come to be,
I remember my choosing
that the darkness is mine
a boon
to the danger...
in me.
