Calmness
Rated: E | Poetry | Family | #1882515
A poem I wrote for my mother 6 years after she passed away.
The calmness that she left with
Is like none other I have seen.
Her last breath was sighed out.
She was as rested as she'd been.

For months, she battled illness;
At times it seemed she'd won.
But on that fateful winters day
We knew her time had come.

Lying in the casket
Her face was finally at rest.
Her pain had finally left her;
The weight lifted from her chest.

Gone six years last winter,
It seems like yesterday.
Her smile, her face, her laughter
Have yet to fade away.

I know that she is happy;
Free, finally, from the hurt.
But I would like one moment
To apologize for being curt.

The last tiime we had spoken
Words of anger were tossed about.
I would like to replace them;
Letting her know I can't live without.

Mother, plelase forgive me.
I know we had our fights.
I would not be me
Without your guilding light.
