Shakespeare's Moon

He won my heart without the skill of verse...
"Shakespeare's Moon"

He paints her brighter than the glowing moon*
who pouts and hides behind a shadowed cloud.
As friends, we were surprised when love did bloom;
we voiced, as partners do, a passion proud.

We whispered poet's lines: the 'fix`ed mark' **
to stay the course of life on stormy sea;
so hope endures beyond a Noah's Ark;
so linked together we'll forever be.

I knew this man who rhymed not with his words***
but through his eyes so many volumes spoke.
Expressed a caring wise as nature's bird
who warns to save his mate from hunter's scope.

A man, whose honest prose endeared such love
that he, the moon of Shakespeare rose above.

*Shakespeare's line about Juliet being "the sun".
**Sonnet 116
*** My husband. I lost him to cancer 3 years ago. We were together 62 years, having met in school at age 12. (Sonnet #16)
