as saplings stand guard and view
the world with a cold eye
unmoving are the sounds to the
ear of billions
all around us
indifferent to the endless screaming for retribution
laughing in the face of salvation
laughing
always laughing at the thought of helping
shrugging off guilt
unwilling to help
unwilling to save yet another
or give false hope
asking multiple questions of the same point
and arriving to the same solutions
that is
to do nothing of worth at all
but only to try
almost always constantly to try
but not try hard enough
or all is lost
more than it already is
as thousands tear their hair out
the rest of the world
sits and waits
as always with unfailing certainty
