This is my character list for The Trench Rats. Please let me know if it sounds interesting or not; I have some actual story to share if it does! ^_^

THE TRENCH RATS: RECURRING CHARACTERS
AMARANTH RAT: PFC; serves as a medic. From the South; somewhat tall and thin, black (race), introverted and awkward with others; very softspoken. Has an uncanny pitching arm. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
BATTLESHIP GRAY: LC; along with Doomsday, in charge of repairing things that are broken. While D-Day is more mentally oriented and experimental, "BG" (as everyone calls him) is more hands on and tends to get more done. Tends to smoke or chew on things when no cigarettes are available. Usually to be found with his hands all oily. Develops an attraction toward Hilda, to the consternation of the other Rats. Laid back and casual, rarely to be found raising his voice, but can be nervous sometimes. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
IRENE BEAUDRY: Sgt.; helps Sgt. Evans assist Camo in getting the Trench Rats project started, but only after he goes home with her for the night. Appears staid and professional, but willing to bend the rules for Evans. Appears in prequel
BLACK RAT: Sgt.; leader of the Trench Rats and Alpha Company (HQ). Never loses his temper, but it's best not to arouse his anger anyway. Quiet and reserved, more thought oriented (versus Gold, who is action oriented). Plans things through first. Unknown to others, suffered a severe trauma when younger and thus has no known relatives; this trauma survives with him into the present day and motivates much of his behavior. Seems to be rather unlucky with injuries: Blinded in one eye, and partially crippled in one leg, due to different incidents, but holds his own pretty well. Earlier on is interested in Skye, but never mentions it. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
BLUE RAT: LC; leader of Delta Company (trench fighting, defensive combat, guarding outposts). Tall, Italian (ethnic background); introverted and quiet but polite and somewhat of a romantic, peaceful type; others jokingly call him the "Gentleman Rat." Also an expert marksman and the best shot the Rats have--yet refuses to shoot to kill--always wounds the enemy instead, if he can help it. Pretty much a pacifist caught in the middle of a war. Past is unknown, but appears to have no relatives. (Original Trench Rat.) Current storyline
BORIS: Russian partisan involved in the rescue of Silver after he escapes the Nazis. Big and brutish, gruff and ill mannered; Silver doesn't take to him very well, as he's a lot like the Nazi who assaulted him. Close to Didrika (calls her "Little Didi"); dislikes the Trench Rats, but hates the Nazis even more, and so ends up helping them however he can. Current storyline
DONOVAN BRADFORD: 1st lt.; the Trench Rats' contact among the British fighting in Germany. Indispensible in assisting them with contacting the Americans and the outside world. Very affable and easygoing, slow to anger; witty and charming, very gentlemanly. Tolerates Harrier's constant griping with ease. Reports to Ellroy and sometimes to the French forces as well as the Americans. A flying ace, but now spends most of his time on the ground. Prefers to be called by his first name. Current storyline
BERIT BRENNER: Dietrich Brenner's young daughter; headstrong and impulsive, wishes to help the Allies in a more active way than just sitting around. Interested in Silver Rat; ends up joining the partisans. Current storyline
DIETRICH BRENNER: Rich German widower; ends up helping the Trench Rats by providing his house as a sort of temporary HQ. Pretends to be loyal to the Nazis but in fact despises what they do, and offers to help out in any way he can. Current storyline
BURGUNDY RAT: 2nd lt.; chief surgeon and third in the chain of command. Intelligent and medically gifted, yet aloof and not very sociable; always comes across as an irritated perfectionist, snappish and overly critical of everybody. In truth, is afraid of making a mistake and so takes it out on others. Simply left his wife to join the Trench Rats under Camo's command (she was cheating on him). Is interested in Skye, and she's interested in him, but he's too self-conscious to tell her. (Though she does find out.) Tall; has a horrible bedside manner but his abilities make up for it. (Original Trench Rat.) Current storyline
"C": Nazi doctor involved in the Doomsday experiment, perhaps its creator; coldhearted and emotionless, sees all of the enemy as potential experimental subjects. Appears in sequel
CAMO RAT: Sgt.; original leader of the Trench Rats and their creator. Quietly proud and reserved, but unlike Black, can lay into somebody if they get him angry enough. Demands complete obedience from his men and usually gets it. Was involved in an automobile accident which killed his wife and daughter and left him with a broken neck; taught himself how to walk again despite the constant pain. Believes in no free lunches--work hard for what you want. German ancestry. Vanished during the trench gassing; believed taken prisoner by the Nazis. Has attained a sort of mythic status among the Rats. (Original Trench Rat.) Appears in prequel
CHAMPERE: "Sgt.-Maj." (title, not rank, though he may have held the actual post at one point); one of the leaders of the French partisans in contact with Papillon. Reserved and suspicious; doesn't like the Trench Rats very much, sees them as troublemakers. He and his men knew of the trench gassing and bombing of HQ yet did not interfere to send assistance. Appears in sequel
CITRINE RAT: LC; in Delta Company under the command of Blue. Ill tempered and caustic; learns of Reseda's arrangement with Vischer and proceeds to hound him to find out who his real "lover" is (having no idea it's someone in his own battalion). Wishes to "out" him out of spite, but is silenced by Gold. Suffers a severe trauma on nearly being killed by the enemy; throughout the story his personality gradually becomes more fragmented. (Original Trench Rat.) Current storyline
COPPER RAT: LC; most often serves as Silver Rat's accomplice in stealth and subversive activities, though Silver can hardly stand him. Smaller in size and wiry; very sneaky and covert, sometimes underhanded but never loathsome. Mixed ancestry, part black, part Indian, part something else; was raised by Roma and taught their language and ways. Most often silent, but often has an amused air; never panicky or upset. Very rational versus emotional. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
DIDRIKA: German partisan of Roma descent; commander and only female in a guerilla group made up of men, including Boris. Petite and attractive, yet tough and deadly. Ends up sparring with Silver, yet has a soft spot for him and considers him a sort of "older little brother." Alternates between treating Reseda as a brother or a possible love interest. Uses sex--literally--to keep her men in line. Current storyline
ADELINA "ADDY" DOBERMANN: Daughter of Insp. Dobermann. Mother was killed in a car bombing; now lives with her father and their servants in a palatial residence. At first appears snobbish and petty, but turns out to be merely stubborn for what she believes in--and she's not certain what to believe in, as soon as she develops feelings for Gerhardt--and then finds out who he really is. Torn inside between him and her father; knows that what the Nazis do is wrong, but isn't certain what to do. Current storyline
LOUIS DOBERMANN: Civilian police inspector; loyalties seem to lie with the Nazi party, some of whom report to him directly, but motives and exact connections are unknown. Reputed to be a baron whose family was stripped of this honor for some forgotten reason. Very rich and mysterious, but also respected and feared. Icy cool temperament at all times; never raises his voice or loses his temper. However, is also coldhearted and ruthless when he wants to be--shoots one of his own men for simply waking him up too early in the morning. A walking enigma, reviled by the Trench Rats. Current storyline
DOOMSDAY "D-DAY" RAT: LC and chief engineer. Was actually one of the main reasons the Trench Rats were founded in the first place: A civilian taken prisoner by the Nazis, he was subjected to a medical experiment intended to heighten intelligence and strength (the "Doomsday Project" ). The project failed miserably on most subjects, yet worked nearly perfectly on D-Day. As such, he's short and slight, but also incredibly strong and intelligent--a sort of absentminded genius. Mainly tinkers around a lot but sometimes comes up with brilliant ideas. Rescued by Camo's men and now serves under the Trench Rats. Experimental serum left a few side effects, however; his blood is toxic to others and so can't be used in a transfusion--however, normal blood can also be toxic to him, so if he needs a transfusion, he'll need another successful Doomsday subject...none of which are known yet. Certain interactions with the serum cause adverse side effects such as extreme pain and muscle spasms; not common, but difficult to deal with, and unpredictable. Half albino--has very, very pale brown fur and bright red eyes. Half rat and half mouse, and so sterile, unable to father children. Amiable and easy to get along with, but also scatterbrained and not very emotionally involved. Prefers science and experimenting to interpersonal relationships. Doesn't wear a colored cape and spiked helmet like most Rats; instead wears fatigues. Lives in a cluttered cubbyhole in a wall in HQ. (Original Trench Rat.) Current storyline
DRAKE RAT: Cpl. and original second in command among the Trench Rats. Served under Camo Rat; went missing after the trench gassing, believed taken prisoner. Jewish, and so his fate is uncertain and may have been an unlucky one. Polite and friendly if somewhat reserved; like a quieter, less temperamental version of Gold. Didn't wear a cape uniform like most of the Trench Rats; instead usually dressed in fatigues. (Original Trench Rat.) Appears in prequel
DUPRIES: Major; Camo's superior when he's first starting the Trench Rats. Doubtful that the project will work, and not overly interested in backing it up, but steps aside and lets Camo do as he wishes. After discovering Sgt.-Maj. Revell's opposition, removes him from the picture so Camo can work undeterred. Gruff and stern but approachable, unlike many of his fellows. Appears in prequel
TITUS ELLROY: Maj.; commander of the British forces in Germany, the one whom Bradford reports to. Big and blustery but not cruel; all smoke and no fire. Doesn't play a large part in things; prefers to sit back and let others take part in the action. Often called "Major Titus" by his men. Current storyline
EVANS: Gunnery sgt.; assists Camo in getting the Trench Rats project off the ground, despite resistance from higher-ups. Ends up having to do a "favor" for Sgt. Beaudry to help Camo out. Appears in prequel
STEPHEN GERHARDT: Sgt.; an American of German descent, serving as a spy among the Nazis. Is now under Dobermann's "command," smack in the middle of enemy territory, and his situation is always precarious. Meets Addy Dobermann and at first thinks she's a total witch, before getting to know her. Is Jewish, an additional complication to his position. Has to conceal just about everything about himself in order to survive. Used to report back to British authorities in league with the Americans--until his secret contact was killed. Now, has only the Trench Rats to communicate his situation to the proper authorities, and so relies on them for his very life. Quiet and dependable, but also conflicted. Current storyline
GOLD RAT: Cpl.; second in command and leader of Bravo Company (general and aerial fighting). Cocky and outgoing; tends to hide any fear he has with jokes or an arrogant attitude. Has a quick temper--quick to flare up, quick to die down. Doesn't tend to hold grudges, but rarely backs down from a fight, either. Also reckless and tends to act before thinking--he and Black complement each other but also cause each other a lot of grief. Has more respect for Black than he shows, however. Not exactly "sexist," but sees nothing wrong with teasing the ladies now and then; they just put up with him. A hopeless romantic; whenever he sees a hint of attraction between two people, tries to pair them up. Smarter than he acts. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
GRAY RAT: PFC; pretty new to the Trench Rats, inexperienced. Not as timid and anxious as Green; tends to observe more than panic. Similar to Turquoise in temperament. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
GREEN RAT: PFC; new, was drafted into the Trench Rats. Short and chubby, not bullied by the other Rats but also feels he doesn't fit in. The one most likely to have a nervous breakdown. Very timid and terrified of the whole situation; tries to do well, but isn't very skilled at much. French-Canadian ancestry. Dumb luck seems to be the only thing keeping him alive. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
THOMAS "HARRIER" HARRICKS: Sgt., serving under Bradford. Excessively patriotic and dislikes both Americans and the Trench Rats, yet has to help them out due to his position. Very gruff and irritable, not easy to get along with; has a perpetual chip on his shoulder. Current storyline
KONRAD HELMSTADT: Pvt.; another soldier, newly recruited, serving Dobermann along with Gerhardt. Naive and wide eyed but eager to please. Very loyal and dependable, yet not certain where his loyalty should lie; tries to serve Dobermann and protects his daughter by default, yet finds himself swayed by her argument that their part in the war is wrong. Still, isn't quite willing to give up his position. Current storyline
GUNTER HESSE: Lt.; elite member of the SS. In frequent contact with the soldiers around Dobermann's house but thinks of Dobermann himself with disdain. Often at odds with the "common" soldiers, but never incredibly obnoxious; uses sarcasm and an overly polite manner to best insult his foes. Gerhardt, Helmstadt, Holt, Senta, and Adelina can't stand him, so he is the one thing they agree upon. Aloof, disdainful, polite and charming but in a false, condescending way; tends to look upon the "Dobermann gang" as children. Rarely loses his temper, but not completely coolheaded like Dobermann; does have his weaknesses, if only the others could find them out. Current storyline
HILDA: Big-boned, "matronly" woman rescued by the Trench Rats before her city is bombed. Ends up residing in the refugee compound, but storms her way into HQ a lot--no one is brave enough to take her on. Short tempered, explosive, and verbally abusive, but also helps care for the Rats after the influenza strikes. Object of Battleship Gray's affection; he seems to have a thing for larger women. Current storyline
ALGER HOLT: Sgt.; Nazi officer serving Dobermann. Older than most of the others; served in the Great War, and considering ending his military career. Patient and tolerant, often looks out for and advises the younger soldiers, though they often fail to heed his advice (particularly Senta). Gerhardt, though understandably wary of him, tends to look up to him. Unknown to Gerhardt, knows what he really is, but refrains from mentioning it. Uncertain of his exact role in the war and whether he should even be involved or not, but keeps most of his conflicts under wraps. Current storyline
INDIGO RAT: LC, in charge of Charlie Company (general and ground fighting). Big and brutish looking, but actually friendly and laid back--usually. Most often easygoing except when dealing with "the enemy"--then can turn downright thuggish. Cheerful, helpful temperament; often takes newbies (such as Green) under his wing, though doesn't always comprehend their specific needs. Also loud and raucous, especially when telling jokes--the kind of person who'd smack someone in the shoulder and send them flying across the room just while having a laugh. Doesn't drink often, but when he does, has a deadly temper. Serves as an intern to Burgundy; hopes to become a full-fledged doctor soon. Australian; his fiancee waits for him back at home. Also tends to the animals kept by the Rats for transportation. (Original Trench Rat.) Current storyline
JADE: French partisan, sister of Jet. Appears in sequel
JANETTE: Nurse serving Burgundy in the hospital ward. Also the target of most of Gold's unwanted attentions; tolerates him for the most part, but isn't averse to slapping him across the face. Is attracted to Mahogany, as Gold suspects, yet neither of them is willing to admit it at first. Calm and coolheaded, yet turns out to have a friskier side. Current storyline
JET: French partisan, brother of Jade. Appears in sequel
ANNA JULIAN: LC; the first official female Trench Rat, serving under Camo. Had feelings for Camo, but kept them to herself. Quiet, formal, and polite, but uneasy around her more hostile comrades. Presence wasn't appreciated by some of the other, male Trench Rats, and she disappeared mysteriously; whereabouts and fate are uncertain. (Original Trench Rat.) Appears in prequel
GODFREY KLEMPER: Pvt.; under Ratdog's command. Serves Ratdog much as Helmstadt serves Dobermann, but looks up to Ratdog almost with adoration. Also tries to please a bit more than Helmstadt does, to gain his superior's favor. (Ratdog often calls him "Goddie.") Somewhat fawning, but not a sycophant. Somewhat jealous of others who take up his attention but tends to sulk rather than grouse about it. Would literally lay his life on the line for his commander, and hangs on his every (albeit rare) word. Current storyline
KOLTEN: Casualty of the Doomsday Project; side effects of the serum left him permanently insane. Still somewhat useful to the project for his exceptional strength and intellectual abilities, so is kept and maintained by the Nazis. Is revealed to have had a hand in the development of a new devastating weapon--as Turquoise learns firsthand. Current storyline
ETIENNE LAURENT: "Pvt." (title, not rank); French partisan serving under Champere. Very young and inexperienced, naive and easily frightened, yet willing to fight. Appears in sequel
MAHOGANY RAT: LC; oversees the refugee camp where freed prisoners are held until they can be transported out of enemy territory. Snappish and irritable, not a people person; a lot like Burgundy only more obnoxious. Also serves as an intern. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
MIRELA: Young Roma girl whose father is killed while trying to escape the Nazis; rescued by the Trench Rats. Later tries to join the partisans and ends up at odds with Didrika. Current storyline
NIXIE: Young German woman whom Turquoise first meets when he travels out of his body--turns out she's traveled out of her body as well. The two share the same abilities and so have an affinity for each other. Like him, also drawn to water. Has a greater understanding of their abilities than he does, and so attempts to teach him how they work. Current storyline
PAPILLON: "LC," though the rank is actually just a title--is really a civilian serving with the French forces in Germany, most of whom are also civilians, a strange ragtag band of mixed forces (mostly French, but of other nationalities as well) that have somehow ended up in Germany by one means or another and are now living in the woods, fighting against the Nazis in any way they know how. Is a bat, not a rat; as such can fly. Thought by the Rats to be one of their own recruits, serving them and reporting to them on French activities; in reality is a double agent, serving the French, while pretending to serve the Rats. Despite this, is a good guy, with only the best intentions in mind; is quite helpful in reporting new developments and the general atmosphere among the partisan forces. The only non-Trench Rat allowed free access to HQ, who knows its exact location. Short and somewhat runty and scruffy, but friendly and cheerful; last name is often given as "LaFierre," though it is not known if this is his real name, as "Papillon" ("Butterfly" ) certainly isn't. Secretive about his spying activities, but otherwise open and trustworthy. Current storyline
PURPLE RAT: PFC. Big, hulking Rat, black (race), always at odds with authority. Originally joined as part of a deal to get out of being put in jail for decking his drill sergeant. Tried the same trick on Camo and ended up being decked back. ;) Brutish, ill tempered, quick to anger; especially gets into it with Gold a lot. Distrusts everyone. A surprising thing about him is that once he's trusted and given responsibility over people, he finally shines through. (Original Trench Rat.) Current storyline
RATDOG: Lt.; serves on the Nazi side, but is not a Nazi. The "new guy" brought in by Gen. Schavich to take care of the "Trench Rat problem." Very skilled, methodical, and levelheaded; never loses his cool. Can be ruthless in battle; however, also believes in honor, and refuses to take a life when it compromises his integrity--for example, lets an injured Silver go rather than kill him while he's weak and defenseless. Thin and hawkfaced; charming in his own cool way. Motives and loyalties are uncertain. Current storyline
RED RAT: LC and best friend of Gold; joined the Trench Rats along with him. Black (race); very shallow and flighty, never too upset or angry; always seems to want to party or have fun. Not a very deep character. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
RESEDA RAT: PFC and member of Echo Company (Silver's company). Tall, quiet and rather introverted; seems unsure of himself a lot of the time. Often loses track of what he's doing and thus ends up Silver's whipping boy; the two do not get off to a good start. Doesn't quite know what he wants to do with himself or his life; confused about his general situation. A good marksman and one of the top 10 Rats wanted by the Nazis. Is in love with Silver but doesn't quite realize it yet. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
REVELL: Sergeant-major; Camo's main source of opposition in starting the Trench Rats battalion. Cynical and confrontational; may also be somewhat unbalanced, with his sometimes bizarre behavior. Detests Sgt. Evans for helping Camo out, and takes out his anger on his subordinates. Has been accused of more unsavory acts, which have not been substantiated. Most of the soldiers try to avoid him, not always with success. Appears in prequel
SCHAVICH: Nazi gen.; lost his eye after being wounded by relative newcomer Black, and has had a vendetta against him ever since. Detests the Trench Rats and all that they stand for. A pot of volatile negative emotions just about ready to boil over. Very short tempered; often resorts to screaming and shouting to get his point made. Perpetually frustrated; character most likely to suffer a coronary. Current storyline
SILVER RAT: LC and leader of Echo Company (general fighting and offensive combat). Extremely skilled with stealth and covert tactics; is the Trench Rat most wanted by the Nazis, dead or alive--is responsible for the most deaths on their side, whether directly or indirectly. Is known by the enemy as the "Silver Ghost" (Silbergeist) for his tendency to show up and disappear again unnoticed, leaving a trail of death in his wake. Favorite method of killing: sneaking up and snapping the enemy's neck. Mixed Spanish and Swedish heritage; born upper class, from a rich family. Always tries to keep coolheaded, but sometimes his temper gets the better of him. Dislikes the overly emotional; also dislikes Copper, who usually ends up paired with him--prefers to work alone. Very solitary and stubborn, and loyal to the Trench Rats. Ends up captured, tortured, and assaulted by the Nazis before escaping; as such, begins to question his own thoughts and stability, as well as Reseda's role in his life. (Original Trench Rat.) Current storyline
LYNDSEY SKYE: LC; "technically" not a Trench Rat, but serves as nurse to Burgundy and helps out in the hospital ward. Prim and proper but not prudish; polite and charming--makes up for the bedside manner Burgundy lacks. British; well liked by everyone. Is interested in Burgundy, and would like to break his defenses down; but isn't certain how to go about doing it while sparing his pride. (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
TAN RAT: PFC; a newbie who doesn't last very long... (Newer Trench Rat.) Current storyline
TEAL RAT: PFC; the only Rat captured by the Nazis to renounce his loyalty and defect to the enemy's side. Only problem is, he can no longer remember the way to Trench Rat Headquarters, and so is not as useful as the Nazis would like; as such his situation is precarious, and he tends to be somewhat desperate to keep their favor. Ends up at odds with Turquoise. Self-centered and self-preservationist. (Original Trench Rat.) Current storyline
TIBELDE: Housemaid to a Nazi sympathizer's family; discovers Silver breaking in but hides him so he's not discovered. Loyalties uncertain, but appears willing to help the Allied cause. Current storyline
TURQUOISE RAT: LC; at first, seems very sarcastic, abrasive, and unlikable, but is actually highly sensitive and empathic and attentive to others' thoughts and feelings. Tends to try to hide his worries and insecurities with sarcasm. Very intuitive; is shown to have actual psychic powers which the other Rats try to use to their benefit--Turquoise thus becomes their "secret weapon." Can travel out of his body at will; also has a knack for avoiding disaster and reading minds. Tries to avoid using his abilities for the most part, however, until learning he's not the only one like this. Slight and somewhat weak; often puts off eating and becomes anemic, yet hates seeing others in pain or in hunger. Irish ancestry, close to his mother (only living relative); the runt of the family but decided to put himself to use in the war, pretending to be older than he was to sign up. Drawn to water. A loner but also deeply romantic and selfless, caring for everyone. Foresaw the HQ bombing just before it happened, but was too late to help. (Original Trench Rat.) Current storyline
VISCHER: Rich older German who enters into a temporary "agreement" with Reseda. Current storyline
WILHELM VOLKER: Sgt.; Nazi soldier and friend of Gerhardt's who develops an affection for Adelina. Friendly and courteous; loves to joke around with Gerhardt, not realizing he's a rival. Current storyline
ADALARD "EAGLE" VON STADEN: Cpl.; Nazi soldier captured by the Trench Rats. Appears in sequel
SENTA WERNER: Lt.; female Nazi officer loyal to Dobermann and often to be found on his estate. An excellent pilot and marksman with an immaculate record but a hair-trigger temper. Fair skinned, blond haired, blue eyed--pure Aryan looks. Haughty and hardheaded; younger than Dobermann, but has been interested in him since she was a teenager. When she finally gets his attention, finds out she's bitten off more than she can chew. A constant rival with Adelina for his attention, and so the two of them do not get along; Addy detests her for seemingly taking her mother's place. Also at odds with Gerhardt, whom she despises and constantly needles to fight. Current storyline
WHITE RAT: LC; overly self-righteous and full of himself, fawning and subservient to authority--like the kid in class who tries way too hard to win approval by looking good. Honestly can't understand when others do better than he does. Not vain, but a brown-noser and not very thankful to others equal to or "below" him. Doesn't understand why most of the others don't like him much, and even when he does, believes it's their problem and not his. (Original Trench Rat.) Current storyline
WOLFSTEIN: Jewish prisoner freed by Silver after his assault; he and the other escapees then help Silver reach partisan headquarters for medical attention. Current storyline
(More characters and information may be added in the future.)
