Haunted
a poem written for a long-lasting heartache that ruined a chance with another

Why must you haunt me?
Even in the arms of another
you come to me.
The very music as I dance with him
whispers my name
in your voice.

Why must I suffer?
I take a step forward, you push me back.
I burnt the bridges
but the smoke from that fire
wafts in my direction,
scented with your cologne.

Why must I still cling to you?
I had a chance with him
but like all things made dismal
by your eternal shadow,
that chance drifted away in the night,
arm in arm with your ghost.
