Your Praying Angel
View from a 9 year old, dead of a brain tumor talking to guilt-ridden mother 4 years later

For four long years, I’ve watched you cry,
Your heart awash with guilt
Which caused you, Mum, to hide yourself
Behind the walls you’d built.

I’ve come to you in many ways
To help you tear them down.
You should see me in all things, Mum,
To know that I’m around.

Memories bring a heavy heart,
You cry from your despair.
The touch you feel is your daughter, Mum,
Slim fingers stroke your hair.

I let you hear my voice, so pure,
In the music you embrace.
For you to see my image, Mum,
Upon my sister’s face.

The love you’ve shown throughout my life
No one could ask for more.
You held my hand, Mum, til the end.
So you I do adore.

For in God’s plan, he wanted me,
He called me by his side.
He told me, Mum, his dreams for me
And asked me to decide.

To sing among the angel’s choir
Amongst the vast deep space
Or hover and protect you, Mum,
From all the tests you’ll take.

So now it’s time you knew the truth,
Of this there is no doubt.
I am your guardian angel, Mum,
Who follows you about.

The choice was easy, but this is hard,
To wash your doubts away.
But trust me, Mum, no matter what
I had to die that day.

It was written for all of time,
That God would need me so
Don’t be mad and don’t disbelieve
For, Mum, he just said “No”.

You miss me Mum, I know you do.
Please don’t you fall apart.
Your praying angel is always here,
I live inside your heart.
