Encouraging Words: Life Ain't Fair
What do you do when life deals you a bad hand?

Have you ever thought that life was hard on you? That you did not deserve the kind of treatment you got in life? Maybe you have looked at other people who were more intelligent, better looking, more skilled than you and asked the question, “Why them and not me? Why was I born poor, dumb, and ugly?”

Let me tell you about a man named Wayne Tatum. Wayne was born without arms. In the place of his arms were small stubs with partial hands. I knew Wayne when he worked for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. Back then he drove a Volkswagen that was modified for him. Now, you might say about life and Wayne Tatum, “Life ain’t fair.” Maybe Wayne said that sometimes. But it certainly did not stop him from achieving. He played high school football. Without fully developed arms, how? He was the place kicker. That did not require arms, just a good foot and strong leg. He graduated from college and went on to be Deputy Director of the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. You see, life ain’t fair, but that made no difference.

How many times have you and I said about a situation or happenstance, “It’s just not fair.” Did that change anything? Did the fact that it wasn’t fair make any difference in the situation? No, it didn’t. Actually, it made it worse because it caused you to dwell on that fact.

I have a word on “life ain’t fair.” The word is “Get over it!” Put it behind you. Move on to something new that you can accomplish. Many people have had the same bad experiences. Some moved on and accomplished great and wonderful things while others wallow in self-pity and regret. You do not change anything by complaining and whining about what has happened that wasn’t fair. Get over it!
