You could see it in her eyes
She was in search of paradise.
She had money, not a large sum.
Said she'd manage, using her thumb.

She knew when she'd get there
She would be, walking on air.

It would be a long road ahead.
She didn't listen too much of what was said.
She was young, naive and pretty,
Unaware of the dangers of the big city.

She was so happy, she didn't care
Soon she would be, walking on air.

A car slowed down as it went by,
Her looks had caught someone's eye.
The driver had stopped ten yards away.
Thinking this must be her lucky day.

She ran to the car, the wind in her hair
It felt like she was, walking on air.

Surprised and never would have guessed.
The driver , a woman, and also headed west.
Lady Luck must surely be on her side,
She thought to herself as she got inside.

The happiness she felt was beyond compare
Her emotions were like, walking on air.

The woman holding the wheel in a tight grip,
Complained about her boring business trip.
She worked for a well-known Teen magazine;
Models and Stars and the whole movie scene.

She wanted in, not a moment to spare.
She'd like to join those, walking on air.

The woman looked her over and asked quite smug
If she would pose nude on a bear skin rug.
She was shocked, but didn't want it to show.
She shrugged and said that she didn't know.

Looking at the road with a disillusioned stare.
Her dreams were fading of, walking on air.

"Look", she said, "I got a huge place"
"This big city could mess up that pretty face".
" It's only until, you can make it on your own.
"If it don't work out you can always go home."

It was all so quick, she wasn't prepared
For what it took to be, walking on air.

They stopped for a meal at a local Café.
She said that her place was only minutes away.
An elegant building, she lived on the top floor.
It was unlike anything she had seen before.

She walked by her side, wide-eyed and unaware
Who between them was, walking on air.

A luxurious apartment, 25 stories high.
Designer decorated, a feast to the eye.
Admittedly, she was not hard to impress
The whole apartment brimmed with success.

She couldn't believe she was just standing there.
Lost in her thoughts of, walking on air.

She was showed her room and eased of her fears.
Last thing that was said was still ringing in her ears.
"Tonight, nobody knows who you are."
"Tomorrow, we will work on making you a Star."

She lay in bed wondering what to wear,
In her dreams, she'd be, walking on air.

The next day she had her photo shoot.
Dreams of fame were her only pursuit.
She modelled and posed throughout the day,
She went from jeans and T-shirt to lingerie.

To have an opportunity like this was quite rare,
Seeing what it takes to be, walking on air

She woke up nude, a throbbing pain in her head.
A video camera stood at the end of the bed.
As she dressed, tears rolled down her face.
She felt dirty, ashamed and so out of place.

She had to go but didn't know where,
This wasn't her idea of, walking on air.

She tried to think, but her head was so sore.
She couldn't remember the night before.
She had to have been drugged, she didn't drink.
Why did it hurt so much to even think ?

She had to face those who were so unfair.
They ruined her dreams of, walking on air.

Entering the living room, dead people everywhere.
She wanted to scream, but managed only air.
Loud pounding on the door, she turned to stare.
Then she hears;"Open up, we know you're in there!"

Instant panic, she blocks the door with a chair.
She won't be caught , she'll be, walking on air

Across the room, she saw her only way out.
A place to hide, there was no time to doubt.
She got up on the railing as not to be seen.
Not ready to die, she was only eighteen.

Thinking how she was drawn in this whole affair
All she wanted was to be, walking on air.

This wasn't the life she wanted or chose.
She could feel the wind tugging at her clothes.
Looking down and taking one last breath,
Her next step would mean inevitable death.

Loud noises inside gave her a scare
She took that step and was now, walking on air.

She saw the sky, the sidewalk and the park,
As she tumbled down then all was dark.
Out of pure determination she managed a scream!
She woke up in bed, it was only a dream.

She looked around her room recalling her nightmare.
Decided to stay home instead of, walking on air.
