Hello and welcome to my port, I'm Tehuti. Smile My real name is Rachel, but I prefer going by my username. I'm a wannabe fantasy writer living in northern Michigan. You can find me alternately under Tehuti, Tehuti_88, Tehuti88, or (Tehuti) Lord Of The Eight. Despite the last one, I'm female. I occasionally, when this username is unavailable, go by social_phobe. If you find my writing or other work posted somewhere either under a name unlike these, or without credit given at all, chances are strong it's been posted there without my permission. (I've had it happen. Angry )

I thought I'd share a bit about myself so that anyone coming by my writing might know me a little better. So, here you go.

The Little Details:

Favorite TV shows: Law & Order (all three of 'em), House, MD, Bones, Cold Case, Mental, Criminal Minds, Snapped, American Justice, Cold Case Files, Forensic Files, mainly a lot of crime-related stuff, it seems Bigsmile

Favorite music: Vertical Horizon, Enigma, Lesiem, Era, Within Temptation, Hans Zimmer, Globus, Immediate Music, ES Posthumus, Adiemus, a little Nightwish, Phil Collins, Rick Springfield (because he sounds almost like Damien, ha ha). I like a lot of Latin-chanting-dance-beat-type stuff, and big dramatic soundtracky stuff, hm.

Favorite movies: The Lion King, Brother Bear (I don't watch many movies)

Favorite writers and books: HP Lovecraft, Basil Johnston, CG Jung, The Manitous, The Island Of The Anishnaabeg, Daily Life Of The Egyptian Gods, Prehistoric Mackinac Island, basically anything good about Great Lakes Indian mythology and culture and my various listed interests

Hobbies/interests: Fantasy writing, Ojibwa mythology and culture, Great Lakes Indians, Iroquois mythology and culture (still learning), Egyptian mythology, MACKINAC ISLAND!!!, early Michigan/Great Lakes geology and history, reading, drawing, nature photography, trees, dreams (the kind you have while sleeping), Jungian symbolism and archetypes, abnormal psychology, the occult/supernatural/paranormal, ritual abuse and crime, anthro/furry writing and art, walking/hiking, panentheism, gay rights

The Bigger Details:

Basically, I write. That's about it. Most of my thoughts and feelings focus on my writing and on things related to it (i. e., the subjects of interest that I write about). I'm disabled with very bad social anxiety and depression, so I don't really leave the house much, and don't have any real life friends or family aside from my parents. So, I spend most of my time writing, reading, and thinking about writing.

As for what I write, why not look at my items to find out? Bigsmile You can't blame me for trying. I write short stories, novellas, novels, and serials, so for the most part you won't be finding poetry, plays, or nonfiction in my portfolio. I also don't participate in interactives or campfires or any such so please do not invite me to any, I don't play well with others.

The genres I prefer to write in are fantasy and mythology, with some drama, adventure, occult, suspense, erotica, and GLBT. These are also the genres I prefer to read in, though I'm not much interested in fanfic, "high" fantasy (elves and wizards, etc.), vampires, and dirty language or erotica without plot.

An explanation about my writing--my shorter stories might seem confusing, seeing as almost all of my work is set in several preexisting storylines of mine, so it can be hard to follow one short story without knowing the history of the characters which is told in the rest of the stories. That is, my work doesn't stand very well alone. It ties in together a lot, so if you're looking for a quick read, you probably won't find it here. I also tend to continue stories a lot in that I write sequels and serials that go on for a LONG time. (My current WIP is at over 170 chapters, and the entire series is over a million and a half words so far.) So if you find yourself interested in my writing, be prepared to be in it for the long haul!

The original storylines that I write in, for anyone interested, are these:

The D Is For Damien Storyline: This is an occult/drama/suspense-based series of novels, mostly unwritten (you can find the three completed ones in my port; ask for information on the unfinished ones), as well as a few shorter items, focusing primarily on criminal Satanic cults and with a strong psychological angle. The existing novels are Lucifer, D Is For Damien, and Minot. Seeing as they were written so long ago, they're going to be rewritten, and you can see the "original" and rewritten chapters that I've done so far of Lucifer in that folder. The rest of the series is on hiatus but I hope to return to it someday. I'm accepting constructive criticism of the original drafts of these novels so I can better rewrite them.

The Horus/Kemet Storyline: This is a proposed series of novels (only one written so far) and related short stories/novellas based on Egyptian mythology. I hope to someday rewrite the existing novel, Horus, as well as write the prequel and sequels, but most of my attention is focused on the shorter items. I loosely include in this storyline the Ameni Chronicles Storyline, which is set in ancient Egypt but is highly adult in nature and features an erotica/anthro/drama/GLBT theme. I'm accepting constructive criticism on the Horus novel for an eventual rewrite.

The Manitou Island Storyline: This is the series on which I focus most of my attention at this time. It's a series of serials and related shorter fantasy stories based on Ojibwa mythology. It is INCREDIBLY long and consists of three existing serials, though there will be more. Due to item limits I probably won't post it in its entirety to this site so if you find yourself enjoying it whenever it ends here, please let me know so I can send you to the right place to read the rest.

The Trench Rats Storyline: This is an anthro series set in WWII. Unfortunately, it's on indefinite hiatus, though you can always ask me about it if you like.

My personal interests and hobbies are Egyptian mythology, Ojibwa/Great Lakes Indian mythology and culture, Mackinac Island, fantasy, writing, reading, drawing, walking, nature photography, trees/forests, Jungian symbolism and archetypes, dreams and dreaming, journaling, early Michigan history, the occult/supernatural/paranormal, criminal Satanism and ritual abuse, abnormal psychology, panentheism, etc. I'm rather liberal in my views and have some issues with organized religion because of this; I myself identify as panentheist. My dislikes are a lot of the things most other people are interested in, such as sports, gossip, celebrities, family/child things, etc. I'm really not good at smalltalk on everyday subjects because, in truth, I don't see the point in talking unless there's something I feel I can talk about. (E. g., if you send me an e-mail saying, "Hi, how are you doing?" I'll just tell you how I'm doing and then that's it, I honestly have nothing else to say unless you ask specifically. o_o ) I'm also terribly shy, even online and with people I know, so don't communicate much with others despite my loneliness. I don't make friends that well because of trust issues; basically, I expect everyone to bail out on me, which they invariably seem to do. Frown So please don't take offense if I'm not the most communicative person; it's either just my shyness or my inability to think of anything to say. I love hearing from people interested in the same subjects I am, though, so please feel free to write to me about those!

Regarding why I post my writing here and elsewhere online: I am NOT looking to get published. I haven't the heart to try. I'm content, for now, with merely posting my writing free for others to read for entertainment purposes only. I am NOT seeking criticism on my writing style or how to get published--for example, I know I use too many adverbs, and that I'm wordy, and that's fine with me because I'm not marketing my work.

This does NOT mean I'm not interested in feedback. Just not of the style/publication variety. I gladly welcome comments from people who just enjoy reading my work--in fact, that's why I post it, so others can enjoy it and let me know!--and I welcome comments on such things as characterization, plot, symbolism, dialogue, etc. (You can also point out typos/misspellings.) Just as long as you keep in mind I'm not trying to be literary or publication worthy. My primary intent is to entertain, so if I'm doing that, then I'm happy.

Please DO NOT ASSUME I must be getting all the comments I can possibly stand, because I don't! I've never been hugely popular anywhere on the Web, especially not here, and I often go for many months without any comments on my work. I don't keep regular readers for very long, and this has long frustrated me, since it seems to indicate that I'm not a very good writer. So if you find yourself enjoying any of my work, PLEASE don't be afraid to speak up more than once. It's the return readers I enjoy hearing from the most. And don't be afraid to go on at length about anything because "I love this, write more" isn't very informative. :/ I really do not mind hearing a lot from readers who enjoy the stories. If nobody comments, why post any of it online?

Regarding what I read and comment on: I really don't read or comment on others' work much. It's not because I don't want to, because I do--comment, and ye shall receive. The thing is, number one, I spend most of my time writing, so don't have much time to read others' writing; and number two (and primarily), most people online don't take grammar and spelling into account that much, so I refuse to read. It might sound snooty, but it's the truth--spelling and grammar are what will be noticed first if you submit something to a publisher or agent, and if you aren't going to take the time to get those right before posting your work online for others to read, then what does that say about the quality of the writing itself? In my opinion, a writer should do everything they can to make their work as readable as they can before submitting it to readers, because if I can't even make it through a few sentences without stumbling all over the poor punctuation and spelling and such, then I don't want to bother; it's just too much work to ask of a reader. Many online writers insist that readers overlook such errors and focus on the story itself, but for me that's impossible to do. Good spelling and grammar are just as important to a good story, so when a writer neglects those, I see no point in spending any effort on reading their story, because they didn't spend any effort on making it easy to read. As someone on another writing site put it, to paraphrase, this is like pointing out a dirty, smudged window and asking someone what they think of your beautiful garden. It doesn't matter how much you ask somebody to ignore all the dirt--they won't be able to see how beautiful the garden outside is unless you clean it up first. How am I going to notice your fabulous characters and exciting plot with all the errors and mistakes riddling the text?

That's just my opinion, and I realize not everyone will agree, and that's fine--but that's why I don't read or comment that much. I'll be glad to change this habit when more people put more effort into making their work easier to read, by focusing more on proper spelling and grammar which should have been learned in school.

Here are links to some of my writing on this site. This is by no means all of it, though I hope it's some of the better material. This is the work I prefer to hear from readers on, if they're enjoying it and what they think of it.
