The Blackened Nun

A gothic poem that turns religious symbols into malevolent beings.

What I saw stunned me, my love,
I have been betrayed by the heavens above.
My punishment hit me as I watched the setting sun,
I was face to face with a blackened nun.

The nun is all-knowing and towers high,
she watches what I say and why.
I am forced to bow to the false holy one,
for she now has me chained and spun.

A white dove rests on her cold pale hand,
pecking my flesh at her quiet command.
Her quiet speech has begun,
she mutters to me that I am a worthless son.

I feel my heartbeat in my chest,
as she splits my soul, crying out that I am a pest.
My soul is caged, no longer one,
she exclaims that I am no divine son.

The inescapable white dove pursues its goal,
to expose my deepest fears that plague my soul.
The nun whispers that I have not won,
and the torment has only just begun.

I must tell you of her judging dove,
it's not one that you have dreamt of.
It pushes me away from everyone,
the nun claims I must pay for what I've done.
