AUTUMN
A poem about the beauty of autum

The colors in fall
are a beauty to behold,
when the days grow short
and the air grows cold.

The year shows its age
as the leaves flutter down,
and we rake them all up
into one giant mound.

The children all run
and play in the leaves,
and we laugh at their pleasure
as we clean out the eaves.

To the young fall is just
one great big game,
as adults we should relax
and join in the same.

We should run in the yard
and play hide and go seek,
and at times a rainy day
is the best time to fix that leak.

We just need to kick back
and park that old rider,
and go down to the orchard
for some fresh apple cider.

The yard work can wait
for later in the year,
it will still be there next week,
don't you ever fear.

But today spend some time
with those that you love,
get up early one day
and hear the cooing of a dove.

The summer is gone
of that I am sure,
but my love for nature
will surely endure.

It is always nice to go
for a walk with a friend,
in a forest that looks
like it has no end.

The leaves will all fall
and the trees become bare,
and we think what a waste,
it really is not fair.

Then we recall
the beauty of spring,
when the leaves reappear
and it's no big thing.

We remember summers beauty
with great delight,
and how the stars look
on a cold winter night.

Each season has its purpose
that is most certain,
the change in them
is just natures theater curtain.

It raises and lowers
in its own sweet time,
because it follows no calendar
or hears a clocks chime.

It makes its own choices
and I'm sure always will,
its what makes summers warm
and gives winter its chill.

So when autumn appears
and the leaves change their hues,
and the reds and the gold's
create some majestic views.

Have faith that nature
will do what is right,
and that far beyond winter,
spring is in sight.

And so as life's circle is closed,
and the new year is in view,
I send autumns bright colors
to all of you!
