Hauntings

with tears in my eyes
and a constriction within my chest
a flash of vision crosses my brain...
The touch of pain nearly overwhelming ...

I feel
though the event is years gone
a sorrow and a hurt
that seems to be ever rending

Why do I remember?
What good or ill will it bring?
Her smile and happy eyes
invade my dreams

I have a good life
I love another
She is worthy and devoted
And I honor her

Yet this pain from my past
haunts
and once again I feel the tears
as they grip me.
