Today I wrote a letter,
A letter to a king. The king of disillusionment, Disillusionment of me. I wrote a letter to a king today, A letter soft and sweet Declaring disenchantment And ending bittersweet. Hand faltered not in writing, My head held high and wise, A letter framed in sorrow, Conscience sole my guide. I signed it with an arrow I pulled from deep my heart. I sealed it with my dignity And stamped it ‘Work of Art!’ ‘Your Grace I served you nobly, I bowed to you on high, I pampered you and bade you Nothing more than love and pride. ‘You see, Dear King, I braved you My belongings and my soul, You kept them for eternity Then cast the love you stole. ‘So tonight I bid thee parting I hope your kingdom well, I pray you find your happiness As I break your lusting spell.’ Today I wrote a letter, A letter to a king. The king of disillusionment, Enlightenment of me.
