Whistling Winter Winds

Strong north winds whistle through the pines
Winter gallops in, we see all the signs.
Snow glistens and brillant moonlight shines
While lustrous stars above twinkle and align.

Male elk bugle and gather their harem
Coyotes howl until early morning
They will need food, winter is warning.
Buffalo snort, standing their ground
While tiny chipmunks scurry all around.
The grizzley seizes all food in sight
Months before he will see daylight.

Thick mud gurgles in the paint pots,
Geysers bubble and spew their lot,
Trees crackle as they swag in the wind
Ice forms on rivers around each bend.

Suddenly we pause and it becomes crystal clear
There is nothing to this beauty we can lend.
