I do not know just why they had to go.
A fateful day, September eleven.
So many souls, their fate they did not know.

People from here and far who did not know
their lives would end at a terrorist's plan.
I do not know just why they had to go.

families and friends wait for news so slow
hoping, fearing, a loved one's fate to learn.
So many souls, their fate they did not know.

Why did the terrorist's cold anger grow
to take lives in a violent collision?
I do not know just why they had to go.

Angry young men willing, eager, to throw
themselves and others into oblivion.
So many souls, their fate they did not know.

Justice must be served, the world we must show
that the people killed did not die in vain.
I do not know just why they had to go.
So many souls, their fate they did not know.
