Adieu
Not because I am unworthy, unattractive or blasé, Simply ‘cause a giant obstacle stands within my way. I tried to move around it, pretend it was not there, Dig a hole beneath it, and dissolve it with a flare. But I cannot pass through it or make it disappear, I have to hurdle over, with a brave and vengeless tear. I have to stomp it flat and crush it with my soul. I have to strike a mortal blow then hope to fill the hole. How sad this weary life’s become, all by myself to forge Ahead and sail this lonely course, just me, in such discord. But Dread be not a bedmate, nor intricate affair, Dread, a laughing evil that hangs thinly in the air. Far be my understanding, as I sit upon this coast, Why I let it get this far and be the faithful whipping post. So to comprehend this passage, not untraveled or untried, Yet Dread looks o’er my shoulder, as I drift in with the tide. I feel a night wing passing, I see a dawning day, I realize indiscretion and fear soon will be turned away. So, dear Obstacle and Dread, I bid you both, Adieu, No longer causes that my heart gets misconstrued. ***
