America. We understand the desire to live freely. I believe that, in most matters, the American military, government and the people as a whole are doing all they can to help the innocent of Afghanistan.
Granted, many aspects could and should be improved to help keep civilian loss of life to a goal of zero, they are doing several things right now to keep that goal. High tech satellite photographs and ground intelligence aid in specifying targets and advanced weaponry can assure, in most cases that only the target is irradicated. As much as we want this to be a Taliban and Al-Qaeda only targets and fatalities, humans are in the cockpits and at the controls and delivering the intelligence. Where you have humans, you have human error. As much as we try, we are not perfect. Our government and charities make daily food drops to the starving people. We cannot stop the Taliban from stealing some of it from their own people’s mouths. We can only do our best to rid the country of the Taliban stranglehold. We are also committed to helping the people establish a broad base government (a government by the people for the people - sound familiar?) to represent and rule for the greater good of Afghanistan. Not one that starves it's people and attempts to squash them under a thumb of harsh government and equally harsh laws. The people of Afghanistan want to live free. We want to let them accomplish this task. I agree that there is much that can be improved in America and how we are handling this war on terrorism, but everyone also needs to admit that we are doing a lot right. We are committed to wipe out terrorism in the world and the first step is to rid it from our homeland and remove the power that dictates terrorism living in Afghanistan.
