Tears and Darkness
written during my first serious episode of depression (in high school)

Tears and darkness.
Isolation.
Help me.

Don't get too close,
I might self-destruct.

Just now,
the emptiness appears,
the darkness terrifies.

It grabs for me.
It wraps itself
around my throbbing,
living heart,
wringing out feeling.

I wasn't expecting it today.
But come it did,
forming droplets
of wet blackness
to dampen my face.

Suddenly, it hides itself again.
It knows that others may try
to liven my soul
and rob it of
insidious pleasure.

It will return
when I'm alone.

In isolation-
with tears and darkness.
Help me.
