The Great Writers Tournament

This is the winning entry for the third round of the First Great Writers Tournament.

Instructions

Write a sonnet. Sonnets are usually about love, but yours may be about anything.

Entry:

Memories of Love

Oh, do not go away from me in haste,
Linger a while; let us sing of joys past,
Savor our memories that still we taste,
And sing together; this shall be our last.

I still remember our song of years ago,
Our love was fresh and our song just begun,
And we sang boldly, touching others so,
For our hearts were joined; we sang as one.

Time has passed and our song is growing weak,
The gold of youth now tarnished and old,
Still we are singing, the words still we speak,
Till all is quiet and our voice has grown cold.

Though our song is o’er, yet my soul doth fill,
And in my heart, the melody lingers still.
