Pot Belly Stove It kept us warm in the winter time. It burned coal or wood of any kind. When it was extremely cold inside, Get near it by standing or sitting. The little stove burned long and hot. On those cold days Dad had to work. Mom used the poker to stoke the fire. The stove pipe glowed from the hot fire. Being cold, Mom often wore a sweater. Don't think she got warm in the winter. The pot belly stove kept one room hot. one with the stove, Mom stoked a lot. On the top Mom kept a pot of water. To put moisture back into the room, The water would boil away over night. She would have to refill it at daylight. When Dad woke up in the mornings. The first thing he did was start the fire. In the old cast iron Pot Belly Stove. Mom got up always on cold mornings. She stoked the stove to get it blazing. Of course the house would be warming, The house was hot when kid's got up Be warm so we could wash ourselves. Drink some hot chocolate before school. A little heating stove with a big pot belly, That we depended on to keep us warm. The Northern winds blew a freezing cold. I'll never forget those cold shimering times. On a cold day it comes back to my mind. Pot belly stove will stay in my memories. The heat it furnished for my yesterdays. BY: Kings
