A Grain of Sand These eyes reflect at any time The color of the sea Crashing waves explode and break Strike true intensity Into a million points of light Thousands upon more Each molecule of water Flung in air or washed on shore Each a prism, each a crystal Reflecting everywhere Rainbows, brilliant rainbows Only if one stops to stare ~ * ~ The ever silent rocks and stones Lie patient in their wait Wearing slow to bits of sand Stumbling hard to find their fate The water crashed in hard each chiseling blow did land Somewhat like you did to me A pile of sand, I stand. In sorted desperation The sand is washed away Distributed to other lands, An oyster’s pearl, per say? Oyster, gently swallow, Enclose, encase, caress Layer bestow layer Grant your protective best Ah, now to be a grain of sand Yet viewed as lovely pearl! Just to keep for gazing A radiant rounded swirl No more a lowly grain of sand You kick upon the beach, But gaze upon your precious pearl As treasure in your reach Do not wear me as you would a ring, Nor chain around your neck Just merely look upon me as a gem, not lowly speck I am a marvel to behold Find splendor in my work The art within my mastery Heaven’s touch upon the earth! ~~*~~
