There are so many people I hope to honor on these pages as my time here on Writing.com continues for years to come.
~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~ First Place Winners in "Truth and Lies: A Short Story Contest" This was the most fun I've ever had hosting a contest! The interactive quality of it set it apart from anything I've experienced in the past and now I think I've addicted myself to the contest! There were so many amazing stories to read. Truth, as the great They say, is stranger than fiction, but all the entrants really spun that idea on its hypothetical head and showed wonderful creativity in how they wove their stories. Wonderful. Congratulations to both of you who were awarded with ribbons, and congrats to everyone who placed! February 25, 2007 Non-fiction:

~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~ Eloquence in Dramatic Writing As happens sometimes, an author will give a review and I'll be so impressed with the review, that I'm compelled to visit his or her portfolio in return because I need to know if the writing I find there will be on par with the review left in my inbox. That's how I happened upon the story below. I was not disappointed. In fact, I felt as though I'd struck gold. The grammar is excellent, and the story--oh, the story! It was well-told, with characters who are alive and have depth. I wanted to know what would happen. It was a beautiful and melancholy story, and I recommend you read it. I'm glad I did.
~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~ Awards Given for the contest, "Write in the Rhythm" While the contest ran for four weeks, and though feedback in my inbox in the first week or so of the contest was positive, in the end only two people entered. It didn't seem right to put the two head-to-head. Since the lack of entries resulted in the contest ending with no official winner, I want to honor the two brave entrants who took part. Their stories were so very different, but both well worth my time. I am very glad to have had the honor of being among the first to read them. They are the kind of stories that stay with you and keep you thinking. Way to go, you two! I loved them both.
~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~ GoCartCherub- St Louis U During the Holiday Season, I took part in a gift exchange here on the site ("Invalid Item"
Of course, I had to go read it, and I can see why she'd choose this. So, Love is a Mommy (no foolin) ~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~ Women of Honor The title of the piece is "A Woman of Honor," but the woman who wrote it is deserving of accolades herself. Jay's story of her grandmother is a beautiful, touching tribute to a woman who lives her life simply, with integrity and kindness, and in so doing, shows herself to be a remarkable and memorable woman. Thank you for sharing this, Jay.
