Take Me
a monologue from an enamored Spike to a distraught Buffy

         Take Me

With wanton, reckless eyes I wasted away my youth
Thus when I became this man, I had no soul to lose.
In my sadistic lifespan of a hundred eighty-two
All I've found, and wanted, to protect is you.

To kill is but my nature, simple and moreover fun;
I tried to deny love but my falling for you won.
Although I try to pretend it's lusty and perverse
This desire haunts my heart like a bloody curse.

You take me for a spin, I come to you on my knees;
Strangely only with the Slayer may I rest in peace.
You think you hurt me, in denial drive me to dismay
But it's nought to how I agonize when you are away.

I know I act haughty, cruel when you draw near
But this pretense only hides my underlying fear
         that as many times as you take me,
         and in just as many ways,
         you'll never take me seriously.
