It wasn't spontaneous, either. The past few hours I had been thinking hard. About the Lakkins. About myself. But mostly about the place I lived in.
Since there was no one else around to contradict me or tell me that my idea was silly or impossible, I started to really believe it. And that was the key.
         Here is what I thought:
Everything around me was what I saw with my own two eyes. Perception was the source... not reality. Everything was perception. At least that is what I was thinking. These gray clouds and flat, gray ground were not the final phase of creation. And the Lakkins and Angels... they, too, were not there to stay. Perhaps God had created it all. Perhaps he or she put me here to change it. I did not know. All I knew was that I must attempt.
I stood up and looked at myself as a Lakkin darted past me. I was pale-skinned and naked, as always. I had clearish, short hair and gray eyes.
I looked down at my foot. It was dull and cold. Slowly, I stared at it and tried to see past the skin. To see what it had really been intended to be.
Nothing happened. I pushed frustration down into my stomach, so the Lakkins wouldn't come over to erase my feelings.
I sat down and put my face very close to my foot and stared at it intently. I just sat there staring until my one deep desire emerged from my soul. Let it come alive. Let the life within me make the very being of my skin come forth.
I knew exactly what I wanted, and I believed in it more and more until I was absolutely positive it was a sure thing.
There was no sting or twisting or noise or excitement. But even if there was, I don't think it could have delighted me any more.
My foot, instantly, turned an orangey brown color. And it was wholly beautiful to me.
That was the first time I ever saw color.
And as my brain registered it, all of my skin turned that rich, reddish color. I stood up and threw my arms up to the air in pure and utter joy.
When I looked about me again, Lakkins and Angels were gathered around me, swaying and grinning wildly.
