The Old No. 77

Please lend me your ear and I'll tell you the legend I hear.
Last run of old 77 on that tragic night she vanished from sight.
The murky water was high when from the tracks she did dive.
The old bridge collapsed.from all her heavily weighted mass.

She was headed to Nashville.from Louisville Before her spill.
Sent her to the bottom of the muddy waters of Mississippi.
She was pulling her heavy load of coal up the L&N railroad..
With her heavy freight behind she was making good time.

The inspectors later would say the old bridge just gave way.
Though they all lost their lives their memory is very alive.
The old 77 still lays at the bottom of old Mississippi river.
Many years have passed but the legend of old 77 lives on.
