After The Darkness
a poem about losing someone in a terrible tragedy

I hold you close, yet you are so far away
Your lifeless eyes look up at me with the same fear as in your last moments
You were taken from me
Ripped from this earth by a reckless soul behind the wheel
It was supposed to be calm, romantic drive,
but the dream was shattered into broken fragments of a nightmare that would haunt my life forever
My tears fall from my chin, and land onto your black sweater
The night is so cold when you are alone
As I get out of the car, I hold my hands
by my heart
and know you will always be there
