In The Hands Of Angels
A short commentary on angels and immortality

Do you ever think that maybe there are angels walking among us and we don't see them? In the movie "City of Angels", the angels are the ones who take or restore our lives at God's command. They are all around us, and sometimes we can feel their presence and sometimes we can't.

It's not that I never believed in angels, for I am a practicing Catholic, but I always thought they did their work from above. I have wondered what it would be like to be like the angels in the movie. To be able to live forever, but not have free will and be able to sense things that us in the secular world can. Warmth, tastes, touch, things that we are normally used to.

There is also the thought of sacrifice. Seth gave up his wings and eternity to have free will. It makes you realize what is more important, immortality or the ability to feel things. We take a lot for granted. To think of the people who are paralyzed or have nerve damage, that can't feel the real feeling of someone's touch, like a pat on the back, or a hug.

Would you give up the ability to feel in order to live forever and be immortal? Personally I wouldn't, because I'd miss the taste of a sweet apple, the warmth of a blanket or smell of fresh flowers or cut grass.
