Group Edit Access & Group Edit Level Item Settings Documentation

An Introduction To Group Edit Settings
Writing.Com provides the functionality to allow members of groups to easily work together. You may give members of groups that you belong to the ability to edit items of your choosing.

When creating or editing an item in your portfolio, you can set the Group Edit Access setting to the Writing.Com Group you wish to grant access to.
Note: The Group Edit area will NOT be displayed on your item creation and edit screens unless you are a member of a group!

To further restrict access to members of the chosen Group, set the Group Edit Level to the minimum group member level who you wish to be able to edit the item. Members of the group with a level equal to or greater than this setting will NOT be able to edit this setting or the item's folder location, but will be able to edit every other part of the item.

If you select a group, do not forget to choose the minimum level a group member must be in order to edit this item. Group members with a group level lower than the chosen level will NOT have access to edit the item.

Group Edit Access and Various Item Types:

Edit access will allow applicable members to edit the item's title, content rating, brief description, genres, keywords, content ratings and body.

Books: Group Members with Group Edit Access to a Book Item will have the ability to edit any entries within the book. Please note, however, that group members will not be able to create new or delete existing entries.

Forums: Group Members with Group Edit Access to a forum will also have the ability to Suspend and UnSuspend postings within the forum. Once a post has been suspended, only those members with edit access will be able to see the contents of the original post.

In & Outs: Edit Access allows members to delete entries from the In & Out.

Survey Forms: Members with Edit Access to a survey will have complete control over listing, viewing and deleting responses.

Questions and Answers:

Q. How do I edit an item that I should have access to edit?

A. Copy the ID # of the item you wish to edit. Visit "My Groups", which is available from the "Member Tools" pull down menu. Scroll to the page's bottom, enter the Item's ID # into the box provide and submit it.

Important Information: CAUTION!
Note1 There is no locking functions to prevent two members from editing an item at the same time. One edit may over ride another if they are performed at the same time. Use this function with CAUTION!!
