The Crossroads....
Trying to decide which path is better in life...

Four corners of the world
They beckoned to me...

Which way would it be?
Going back and struggling still
with who and what I will become...

Softly the north wind did blow
and on the birch tree the moss did grow.
Calling, calling....

Sweet whispers, tainted air...
with baited breath I did stare
backwards towards the lonely path
twisting and curving this way and that,
calling, calling to me...

No not that way,
for though it called
danger was there waiting..

So where should I go?
Forward, feet first, head held high
gazing into the future's strife.

Swiftly the leaves did rustle
on that lonely birch tree.
Hustle, bustle...

Hurry, come this way...
Watching, eyes pointed ahead
staring at the long narrow road
all uphill, it did go

No not that way,
no need to hurry or scurry
standing still was best....

To the left?
Prehaps, never moving always standing...
Still and straight....

Like the birch tree,
strong and ungiving..
roots going deep, down deep.
Holding and clinging...stubborn

To the right.....
The air did shimmer and move,
swirling and twirling...
beckoning ...into nothingness.

At the crossroads she stood waiting,
watching and hoping....

Going nowhere while the earth moved
Standing straight and tall,
stubborn through it all.

Not going forwards or going back
yet seeing and hearing it all...

Knowing in her heart it would be stand still
or be nothing at all.......
