Depression
A poem I wrote while feeling blue. Possibly a little self-indulgent?

Depression

Life’s an exam and I just failed the test,
My partner thinks that I might be depressed.
My mother insists that it’s all in the mind
My father tells me that life is unkind.

My neighbour’s convinced that it’s something called S.A.D.
My mirror confirms that I’m going quite mad.
My friends all agree, sometimes life is a bore
Then, oh so politely, they show me the door.

My colleagues are busy – can’t bother them,
My shrink suggests childhood trauma – again.
My auntie says pills can work wonders these days,
I could feel fine in a chemical haze.

But all I can say is – if it’s all in my head –
Why’s my heart shouting, “You’re better off DEAD!”
