A poem from the point of view of an elderly man

The twilight is about to come,
But there is so much left undone.

Brand new trails still not yet paved,
Great discoveries still not made.

Fighting nations not united,
Great decisions, undecided.

Future leaders not yet born,
Future peoples not yet grown.

Innovations I will fail to see,
Ideas that might fail to be.

How can I leave it all behind?
When I still need much more time.

Their minds have not yet evolved,
To answer the questions I’ve left unsolved.

Will they take up the good fight?
Or will they stray away from right.

Will they fight amongst each other?
Or stand together just like brothers.

But in their hearts I see some hope,
Enough so that my mind can cope.

They’ve seen the error of my ways,
And they will work toward better days.

They’ll reach the heights I could not reach,
They’ll learn the lessons I could not teach.

They will put to rest my fears,
And build a future, bright and clear.
