Chapter 5

Up and Out

Taking Thimpin under his arm
and with no worry of further alarm
Bromyn set a fast pace through those old hand carved caves.
They talked of Thimpin's family and Spy'ter and the silver chain net,
and Bromyn praised Thimpin for being so brave.

In just a few minutes it seemed,
as if slowly waking from a dream,
the companions were climbing a damp stair case made of stone.
At the top Bromyn turned and knocked and tapped
and a huge door opened with a grating groan.

The early evening sun was blinding,
but like a yo-yo up-winding,
Thimpin felt himself being pulled to the outside.
Bromyn thoughtfully held his arm and guided and directd
until the sunlight stopped making them misty-eyed.

What a sight those two made
as they stood under the shade
of the top branches of an ancient white oak tree.
Thimpin was looking down at his home and yard and garden
and was excitedly pointing so that Bromyn could see.

For thirty minutes or more
Bromyn talked of the clan of Thord
and of how dwarves came to live in Knott County and underground.
He told tales of elves and wyrms and silver mines
and Thimpin listened wide-eyed without fidgeting around.
